Economy and Bills to Focus on Cuban Parliament’s Agenda

The Fifth Ordinary Session of the Tenth Legislature of the National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba (Parliament) will begin today. With its agenda focused on the economy and the approval of laws.

This Wednesday, the Legislature plans to evaluate the implementation and impact of the Government Program measures to correct distortions and boost the economy, with a speech by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero.

During the morning, the deputies will also debate a report on the results of the main economic indicators at the end of the first half of 2025. Presented by the Minister of Economy and Planning, Joaquín Alonso.

For his part, the Minister of Finance and Prices, Vladimir Regueiro, will update parliamentarians on the progress of the State budget execution for this year and the settlement of budget figures executed during 2024.

In this context, the Economic Affairs Committee and the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee will submit to the plenary for consideration an opinion evaluating the performance of various sectors and reflecting public opinion on the issues addressed.

According to sources from the National Assembly, among the topics scheduled for Thursday are the approval of the bills for the “Cuban Sports System.” The “General Regime of Contraventions and Administrative Sanctions.” The “Civil Registry,” and the “Code for Children, Adolescents, and Youth.”

Yesterday, the ANPP’s permanent committees concluded their evaluation of multiple national issues. Focusing on government attention and parliamentary oversight of social vulnerability. An issue addressed with “effort, creativity, and intelligence.”

This was the assessment made yesterday by President Miguel Díaz-Canel, who reaffirmed that Cuba and its Revolution are carrying out a program of social transformation based on the principle of not abandoning anyone.
