The Raúl Camayd Hall of the Eddy Suñol Theater in Holguin will host a performance by Cuban clarinetist Léster Alexis Chio Alonso next Sunday, July 20th. He will be accompanied by soloists of classical music from this province.
Helson Hernández, producer and general director of the show titled “Rutas de colores concertantes,” announced that four women with distinguished musical careers will accompany the instrumentalist on stage: pianist Anniela Maldonado and cellist Lilian Pavón. As well as sopranos Isabel Torres and Loreta Rodríguez, leading figures of the “Rodrigo Prats” Lyric Theater in the Cuban city of parks.
He added that the program will be “diverse and rigorous,” featuring universal and contemporary composers such as the Frenchman Philippe Glaubert, the Italian Nino Rota. The Austrian lied master Franz Schubert, as well as Lucía Álvarez and Moisés Simons, with works that propose various chamber music formats.
Regarding the distinguished visitor, Chio Alonso, the artistic director highlighted his training at the Guillermo Tomás Conservatory in his native Guanabacoa, where he later graduated as a clarinetist and professor. Throughout his professional career, he has served as principal clarinetist of the Cali Philharmonic Orchestra and as a professor at the Conservatory of the Institute of Fine Arts in that Colombian city.
Winner of the Amadeo Roldán National Competition in Cuba, the musician also won first prize at the Spring Festival International Competition in Korea. He was a member of the World Orchestra and the French Youth Orchestra, performing with the Berlin Philharmonic. The Amsterdam Concertgebouw, and the Leipzig Gewandhaus.
He currently pursues his career in Europe, linked to pedagogy and musical training projects. As a clarinet professor at the Gustave Charpentier Conservatory in Paris and the Saint-Cloud Conservatory.
