Olexis Infante, an example of baseball perseverance

Olexis Infante Aguilera, a native of the municipality of Cacocum, is currently participating in his 29th senior provincial tournament in the northeastern region of Holguin a record-breaking achievement.

A striking detail of this tenacious Holguin baseball player’s career is his participation in three national series and his participation in various regional events in the sugar cane leagues. Winning two national titles as a member of the Cristino Naranjo sugar mill team.

Infante reaffirms that his intention is to compete next year in his thirtieth Holguin contest, playing balls and strikes, and if he succeeds, he will set the bar high for the next generation.

He confesses that one of his greatest satisfactions has been his son Kevin Infante Fonseca’s participation in the MLB minor leagues, undoubtedly the best baseball in the world. As an infielder and outfielder from a very young age, Kevin has achieved commendable results at the national level representing Holguin.

Likewise, the sporting achievements in provincial baseball of other Holguin residents are well-deserved, such as Ramón Melanio Zaldívar of the Rafael Freyre Navegantes; Onésimo Llorente, a member of the Cafetaleros de Sagua de Tánamo; Junior Mayo of the Piratas de Gibara; and Osbel Sosa, still active with the Alegres de Mayarí, Infante’s stoic rivals.

The discipline, dedication, and love for the jersey of his municipal home and all the teams he has represented, along with his enduring spirit of victory, have been driving forces in the extensive career of Olexis, whose father, Benedicto Infante, was a prominent outfielder from Cacocum.

Dedication and permanence in any aspect of human endeavor are commendable virtues, worthy of imitation.
