Solar Panels Benefit Water Supply Systems in Holguin

With the implementation of two new water supply systems powered by solar panels. The province of Holguin has reached 116 of these sites, as part of the energy matrix change programs in the region.

Juan Mario Echavarría Hernández, sector representative, told CNA that the pumps are located in the towns of Damián and La Rioja, located in the municipalities of Holguin and Cacocum, respectively.

Also he emphasized that the systems benefit 85,000 residents in areas traditionally affected by drought and prolonged periods without service through the water and sewer networks.

Moreover the representative specified that the sites are being installed in vulnerable areas with the goal of improving accessibility to the vital liquid in those areas, prioritized by government projects.

Echavarría Hernández pointed out that, with these actions in the sector, 11 of the 14 municipalities in the province. Among the most populated in Cuba, benefit from the use of clean energy.

Futhermore to restore the supply networks, investments are also being made to replace sections of pipelines, eliminate leaks, and reduce flooding areas.

On the acquisition of pumps and other supplies, there are several agreements with mechanical companies aimed at recovering parts and components essential for the operation of the equipment.
