Liz Ponce de León has been part of a new generation of lyrical singers graduated from the classrooms of the University of the Arts (ISA) in Holguin since June 27th.
Attending her graduation concert at the Raúl Camayd hall of the Eddy Suñol theater were guests such as tenor Cristian Alvarado, soprano Dianelis Torres—Liz’s tutor, pianist Anniela Maldonado, the Holguin Coral Orfeón group, the artistic group Rodrigo Pratts, and study colleagues, all accompanied by the Holguin Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Oreste Saavedra.
Several works were performed as part of the program, including the Ave Maria (aria from the opera Otello) by Giuseppe Verdi; Reine el día (Russian song) by P.I. Tchaikovsky; Core N’grato (Neapolitan song) by Salvatore Cardillo; Flower Duet (aria from the opera Lakmé) by Leo Delibes; African Lament (romanza from the zarzuela El Cafetal) by Ernesto Lecuona;
I dreamed a dream (musical Les Misérables) by C.M. Schömberg; Parigi o Cara (aria from the opera La Traviata) by Giuseppe Verdi; Habanera (aria from the opera Carmen) by Georges Bizet, and La Petenera (romance from the zarzuela La Merchenera) by Federico Moreno Torroba.
The talented soprano performed the works in their original languages, a requirement from the jury for her final graduation grade.
Liz Ponce de León connected with music from an early age in the children’s company Ronda de los Sueños, entered ISA in 2020 in the Bachelor’s degree in Music with a focus on lyrical singing, and since 2023 has been part of the vocal group Bella Voce, with which she has participated in multiple cultural events in the city of Holguin under the direction of outstanding artistic directors.
Ponce de León thanked everyone who in one way or another collaborated with her professional preparation during her years of study and with A lot of security delighted the audience and the group of teachers present, who stood up and, with deserved applause, contributed to the jury’s unanimous decision to award the highest rating in their evaluation.
