The Provincial Center for Medical Sciences Information (CPICM) of Holguin has become the first Center for Learning and Research Resources in Health (CRAIS) in Cuba.
This new type of university library meets the requirements to integrate technological infrastructures, human resources, spaces, equipment, and services. In line with the development of information and communication technologies in recent years and in response to the demands of new teaching models.
Although there are other Centers for Learning and Research Resources in the country, located in higher education institutions in Pinar del Rio, Cienfuegos, and Granma. This is the first of its kind in a university of Medical Sciences.
According to Master in Sciences Pedro Rafael Martínez Lozada, responsible for the Educational Technology área. CRAIS is a term used to describe a type of library that exists within an educational institution, such as schools or universities.
It is created in response to the need to adapt the university library of the Medical Sciences Information Center to a new space and trend in Higher Education. That configures university teaching based on learning, research, development and innovation.
It was also noted that one of the proposed objectives for the creation of the CRAIS of Medical Sciences in Holguin is to provide students, teachers, and the university community with a learning experience through interaction with information sources and various technological and informational resources.
This conversion facilitates access to quality information resources and services necessary to contribute to the creation and dissemination of knowledge and the comprehensive training of future professionals in Medical Sciences.
It contributes to achieving the objectives of the UCMHo moving forward, the challenge is to consolidate the CRAIS of this higher education institution as a useful, adaptable, dynamic service open to collaboration. In order to respond to the changing needs of the university community and society. It is called to become a benchmark in the provision of quality services.
Among the values that define it are the commitment to the university, the promotion of service quality, continuous improvement, and transparency in managing information and knowledge. The provision of a public service focused on user satisfaction in the search and retrieval of peer-reviewed and validated scientific information.
Professionalism, innovation, creativity, and continuous training; social responsibility, attention to cultural and social diversity, and respect for the environment, and commitment to society are also key aspects for an open agent and dynamizer of the heritage that the CRAI safeguards.
The CPICM brought together the necessary potentials to become a CRAIS, for the benefit of the university community, as it integrated a university library that provides both traditional and specialized services. Including information metric studies and retrospective searches.
It has a technology group capable of maintaining communication support at the provincial level, it consistently publishes two scientific journals (Correo Científico Médico and HolCien) and offers services for scientific writing, translation, layout, and contributions to the two journals.
As well as advising authors on the management of creating and publishing books through ECIMED. This news arises from the celebration, every June 25th, of a new anniversary of the CPICM, conceived to serve information in health sciences.
