Díaz-Canel highlights the potential of the EAEU

Cuba sees enormous potential in expanding economic and trade relations with the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), said today the president of the Caribbean island, Miguel Díaz-Canel.

The leader, who is participating in the meeting of the Eurasian Economic Supreme Council. Reiterated his country’s firm will to become an effective partner within the organization.

In addition, he stated that over the past five years, as an observer country, Cuba has worked with other members of the association to strengthen dialogue and cooperation.

In this regard, he emphasized that he sees enormous potential and opportunities to expand economic, trade, and financial relations.

He also announced the signing this Thursday of an agreement to establish a bilateral Committee between the Chamber of Commerce of Cuba and the Council of Entrepreneurs of the EAEU.

Moreover, the head of State he emphasized that Havana can contribute to the creation of favorable conditions for the EEU partners in the markets of Latin America.

He finally added that Cuba’s strategic and geographical location in the Caribbean and the trade agreements it has signed with almost all countries in Latin America and the Caribbean give it significant advantages in terms of tariffs.

The Eurasian Economic Supreme Council is part of the summit of the Eurasian Economic Union. Which takes place on June 26th and 27th in Minsk, the Belarusian capital.

Díaz-Canel is attending this type of EEU Supreme Council meeting in person for the second time, of which the island has been an observer state since December 2020.

The EEU is an economic alliance comprised of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia. In addition to the member countries, this year’s summit is attended by Cuba, the United Arab Emirates, Mongolia, Nicaragua, and Uzbekistan.
