Cuba: collaboration with Russia will modernize the power system

A novel project to modernize the National Electroenergetic System (SEN) is being developed by Cuba and Russia in order to improve infrastructure and incorporate advanced technologies, said Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez today.

On his Facebook account, the head of the ministry detailed the five fundamental points of the cooperation initiative between the parties aimed at a sustainable energy future on the Caribbean island, he wrote.

First, he highlighted the modernization of the SEN supported by the Slavic country. Which includes the implementation of artificial intelligence technologies between both countries.

As part of the Generation Units upgrade program, it is planned to renew three of these 100 megawatt (MW) units at the Ernesto Che Guevara Thermal Power Plant, located in Santa Cruz del Norte, in the western province of Mayabeque.

The head of Cuban diplomacy also mentioned the installation of a new generation block of 200 MW, financed with a Russian loan that includes 60 million dollars for fuel purchase and two million for repair parts and kits.

Additionally, it was announced that the Russian Minister of Energy, Sergei Tsivilev, held a meeting with a Cuban delegation, where the parties committed to strengthening collaboration in the fuel and energy sector.

Both countries highlighted the need to train qualified specialists for the successful development of electric power in Cuba, emphasizing the importance of personnel training in all specialties related to the electric sector, Rodríguez noted.
