Romerías de Mayo recalls the cultural thought of Fidel

The XXXIII edition of the Romerías de Mayo will return to Holguin from May 2nd to 8th, 2026. Dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the creation of the Hermanos Saiz Association (AHS) and to the cultural thought of Fidel Castro, on the occasion of the centenary of his birth.

Under the motto “Tradition and modernity in defense of the identity values of our peoples,” the organizing committee of the World Festival of Artistic Youths opens its call to all interested projects until December 31st, to announce the selection in February of next year.

Yasel Toledo Garnache, national president of the AHS, commented in exclusive statements to the Cuban News Agency that the event will dedicate its next edition to Fidel. Who maintained a fraternal relationship with the association and was Honorary Member and Master of Youths, to remember his imprint on the cultural processes of the country.

The historical leader of the Cuban Revolution held several significant meetings for the functioning of the AHS and the development of young art. One of them took place on March 18th, 1988, when he expressed that an organization like this is justified now and forever, Toledo explained.

He also recalled his presence at the first Congress of the AHS, held in October 2001. Where for several hours he debated topics on the international cultural landscape and listened to proposals from the young members present. Also who later made initiatives such as the scholarship and awards platform of the organization a reality.

He also pointed out that the Romerías constitute the most important event celebrated each year, and it is expected that its XXXIII edition will have broad international participation, accompanying the Holguin audience.

The meeting, which has become the World Festival of Artistic Youth, has turned Holguin into the capital of young Cuban art since 1993. Gathering the best creators and artists from the archipelago and other countries to celebrate art in all its manifestations.
