Open call for the Third Meeting of Paper Artists in Holguin

With the aim of encouraging the exchange of knowledge related to the artisanal production of paper, registrations are open in Holguin for the Third Meeting of Paper Artists.

Sponsored by the Provincial Center for Plastic Arts, the editorial Cuadernos Papiro, the Casa de Iberoamérica, and the Association of Paper Artists and Craftsmen of Florida, the event will take place during the 31st edition of the Ibero-American Culture Festival from October 24th to 30th, 2025.

According to the call, the meeting will enhance three-dimensional experimentation through working with natural fibers via workshops, discussions, conferences, and exhibitions.

For this occasion, the idea pays tribute through the presentation of an art book and other activities to the 90th anniversary of the birth of Electa Arenal Huerta, a Mexican artist who left a significant sculptural and muralist legacy in Holguin.

Yuricel Moreno Zaldívar, director of the Provincial Center for Plastic Arts in Holguin, the main organizing institution of the event, stated that for this reason, there will be a connection between Electa’s sculptural work and its imprint with the work in handmade paper.

“We also want to highlight how, starting from natural fibers and handmade paper, one can work volumes and create three-dimensional works; a line of work that has been quite explored in the world but has had little experimentation in our territory, so we want to revisit this different way of making art,” assured Moreno Zaldívar.

With participation requests open until September 30th, papermakers from different parts of the country and the world are invited to share experiences on the artisanal paper-making process and its possibilities for artistic creation, among other topics inherent to this form of making that has the principle of caring for the environment through recycling and the use of eco-friendly materials.

Additionally, it was announced that the works resulting from the Third Meeting of Pulp Artists will be part of the institutional collection of the Provincial Center for Plastic Arts as a memory of the meeting.
