Alert from Pope Leo XIV about the danger due to current conflicts

Pope Leo XIV warned today that current conflicts, involving nuclear and sophisticated weapons can lead to a greater barbarism than in previous times.

In his words at the conclusion of the general audience, held at 10:00 local time this Wednesday before thousands of faithful and pilgrims gathered in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican. The Supreme Pontiff expressed that “the heart of the Church is torn by the cries that rise from places of war” such as Ukraine and the Middle East.

Also he referred to the clashes between Kyiv and Moscow, as well as those taking place between Israel and Iran which began on June 13th following an attack by Zionist forces against Tehran. As well as the massacre being carried out by Tel Aviv against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, resulting in over 55,000 deaths.

“We must not get used to war!” demanded the Bishop of Rome, and pointed out that “in fact, we must reject the temptation of powerful and sophisticated weapons.” Highlights a note published by the press office of the Holy See.”

In reality, since scientific weapons of all kinds are used in the current war, their atrocity threatens to lead combatants to a barbarism far greater than that of past times,” he considered, and quoted Pope Francis, who on numerous occasions expressed that “war is always a defeat!”.

The Pontiff also referred to the words spoken on August 24th, 1939, by Pope Pius XII. Who on the eve of World War II alerted humanity to the consequences of that conflagration.

“Nothing is lost with peace. Everything can be lost with war,” this pontiff declared 86 years ago during those crucial moments for humanity, recalled Leo XIV while repeating this phrase that becomes relevant these days.

In a jubilee audience held on June 14th, the leader of the Catholic Church made a call for peace, given the dangers the world faces due to the fact that “the situation in Iran and Israel has deteriorated severely.”

He stated that these are “very concerning news,” and that “in such a delicate moment I wish to strongly renew a call for responsibility and reason.” “No one should ever threaten the existence of another,” he asserted, and emphasized that “it is the duty of all countries to support the cause of peace. Starting paths of reconciliation and promoting solutions that guarantee security and dignity for all.”

“The commitment to building a safer world, free from the nuclear threat, must be pursued through respectful meetings and sincere dialogue. To build lasting peace, founded on justice, brotherhood, and the common good,” added Pope Leo XIV.
