Pope Leo XIV calls for peace after Israel’s aggression against Iran

Pope Leo XIV today called for peace in the face of the danger the world is living in after Israel’s recent aggression against military and civilian targets in Iran. Which caused dozens of deaths and hundreds of wounded.

A note published by the press office of the Holy See indicates that after the Jubilee audience that began at 10:00 local time this Saturday in the Vatican Basilica of St. Peter. The Supreme Pontiff lamented before more than six thousand faithful and pilgrims attending the ceremony, that “the situation in Iran and Israel has seriously deteriorated”.

This is, he said, “very worrying news” for which “in such a delicate moment I wish to renew with force an appeal to responsibility and reason”.

Since the early hours of last Friday morning, Israel launched an escalation of air raids against several Iranian localities including the capital, Tehran. As well as Tabriz, Khorramabad, Kermanshah, Boroujerd and Natanz. The latter in the center of the country, causing serious damage, as well as the death of military chiefs, nuclear scientists and numerous civilians.

“No one should ever threaten the existence of another,” the Bishop of Rome said in the face of these events and emphasized that “it is the duty of all countries to support the cause of peace. Initiating paths of reconciliation and promoting solutions that guarantee security and dignity for all.”

“The commitment to build a safer world, free from the nuclear threat, must be pursued through respectful encounters and sincere dialogue. In order to build a lasting peace, founded on justice, fraternity and the common good,” Pope Leo XIV added.
