OPJM in Holguin celebrates the change of attributes

With the slogan “Pioneers for communism, we will be like Che!”, concluded the day where children of the third grade of Holguin province made the change of atributes. Marking their official entry to the Organization of Pioneers José Martí (OPJM).

The emotional ceremony, held at the foot of the monument to the Heroic Guerrilla Ernesto Che Guevara. Became a double homage to commemorate the 97th and 180th anniversaries of the birth of Che and Antonio Maceo, respectively.

Futhermore the solemn act was attended by the highest provincial authorities, headed by Joel Queipo Ruíz, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in the territory, together with governor Manuel Francisco Hernández Aguilera. They were accompanied by leaders of the Communist Youth Union. The OPJM and representatives of the educational sector, who shared this transcendental moment with the proud families.

Also amidst hugs and shining glances, parents and authorities exchanged scarves, replacing blue for red, symbolizing the new step in the pioneer organization. The children’s faces reflected the mixture of joy and the awareness of beginning a stage of greater responsibilities and commitments to their integral development.

Moreover Lisbeth Cruz Ochil, municipal president of the OPJM, emphasized in her opening remarks the historical importance of the moment: “Guided by the principles of solidarity and discipline, our pioneers today assume the challenge of being better, of fulfilling new tasks and honoring, from their formation, the enduring example of these two giants of our history who gave their lives for the freedom of Cuba”.

Finally between hugs and family photographs, another chapter of the change of attributes was captured in the collective memory. A tradition that, year after year, renews the hopes of the Homeland.
