The positioning and trajectory of vocal music in Cuba and its forms of promotion and defense were the topics that centered the first panel of the Festival of Vocal Groups “Vocalis”, which is being held in Holguin until the 12th.
Debate on vocal music, Holguin Led by specialists and historians Zenovio Hernandez Pavon, Minelvis Perez and Maria Monier-Pedro Caverdos, the meeting also reviewed the imprint of numerous Holguin artists in this genre, highlighting the popularity it enjoys in the province.
Hernández Pavón highlighted the value of Cuba, heir of a musical tradition coming from Europe, which combines multiple formats of voices in the same scenic work and which, in spite of the passage of time, treasures great groups and artists in the scene as the Orfeón Holguin.
For his part, Minelvis Perez pointed to a large female presence, where the role of women as lead singers or soloists, conductors and composers is observed, and highlighted the existence of groups with decades of work, among them, the Duo Vertice.
The event is part of the Festival’s theoretical program, which brings together groups and specialists from all over the country with the aim of promoting this genre for popular consumption and the national scene.
Milagros Monier, organizer of the event, pointed out the importance of this type of meeting, which seeks, in its second edition, to strengthen its position as a national reference and essential space for Cuban music.
Among the activities to be held are concerts and shows with guests from the School of Art Instructors and the Elementary School of Art, with the participation of groups from the eastern part of the country, including the University Choir and the Ánima Vocal Project.
The Festival of Vocal Groups “Vocalis” was nominated Cultural Event of the Year in 2024 for its importance in the defense and dissemination of music, creating a space for exchange and enjoyment for the people of Holguin.
