A South Florida, U.S., man was convicted of federal charges after posing as a flight attendant and flying for free dozens of times over six years, authorities said.
Tiron Alexander, 35, was convicted by a federal jury last week of wire fraud and entering an airport secure area by deception, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida said.
Alexander is accused of posing as a flight attendant at four airlines to book more than 120 free flights between 2018 and 2024.
Prosecutors claimed Alexander booked the free flights, available only to pilots and flight attendants, through one airline’s website.
The website required applicants for free flights to select whether they were pilots or flight attendants and provide information about their employer, date of hire and badge number.
The man completed 34 flights with one airline after claiming to have worked for seven different airlines and using 30 different badge numbers and hire dates, according to the prosecution.
Alexander is scheduled to be sentenced on August 25th. The case was investigated by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
