Holguin out of school and youth baseball finals

Holguin’s baseball teams were left out of the national finals of the Under 15 (school) and Under 18 (youth) categories. At the conclusion of the respective eastern semifinals on Sunday.

At the Mártires de Barbados stadium in Bayamo, during the final day, Lugdis Pineda’s youths fought until the last minute for the ticket, but in the decisive game they lost 3×2 against Sancti Spiritus. In eight innings, with individual victory for Dainel Bencomo and setback for Alaín Torres who played the eight chapters.

On the same date, Camagüey defeated Santiago de Cuba 9×4 in the match sealed on the previous date and then, in the match corresponding to the day, 3×1 to Sancti Spiritus. Granma defeated Santiago de Cuba 5×4 and deprived them of any option to advance to the final.

The Holguineros won against Santiago de Cuba (10×9) and Granma (4×3) and lost against Camagüey (6×1) and Sancti Spiritus (3×2). The Holguin team committed 12 errors in the first three games.

The standings of this Eastern U18 semifinal phase ended with Camagüey (4-0) and Sancti Spiritus (2-2) as qualifiers, followed by Holguin (2-2), Granma and Santiago (1-3). The final will be held in Sancti Spiritus from the 20th to the 28th of this month.

In Las Tunas, venue of the Eastern U-15 semifinal, the qualifiers were Santiago de Cuba and Ciego de Avila (3-1). Then came Sancti Spiritus (2-2), Holguin and Las Tunas (1-3). The final of this category will be held in Avileña.

The Holguineros, who will not be able to defend their title, only managed to beat the locals (9×4), as they lost by knockout and no jit no run against Sancti Spiritis (10×0), against Ciego de Avila (5×3) and against Santiago de Cuba (15×2).
