Holguin stands out in the protection of the environment

The management and integral development plans of the Turquino Plan stand out among the achievements of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment in the province of Holguin. On the occasion of June 5th, World Day dedicated to this event.

Geovanny Zaldívar Martínez, sub-delegate of that branch in the territory, told CNA that in those areas a reforestation program is applied in the mountain communities of Pueblo Nuevo de Pinares, Viveros Dos and La Mina, in the municipality of Mayari, with the objective of sensitizing the community actors in the protection of biodiversity through a systemic and participative approach.

Also contributing to this purpose are the management plans for the Sierra de Nipe and the Mensura-Piloto National Park in terms of forest rehabilitation with species native to the community, said the director.

He also emphasized that the measures to control polluting sources, among them the reuse of organic wastes and the connection of 50 houses to the aqueduct and sewage systems are also outstanding.

The eastern province also has a group of tourism and nickel companies proposed for the National Prize Free of Ozone Depleting Substances. The diagnosis of hydrographic basins of municipal interest and the approval of new protected areas, said Zaldívar Martínez.

To these achievements are added the protection of beaches for tourist use, the monitoring of more than 200 polluting sources. The relocation of houses and institutions located in coastal flood risk zones and training actions on current legislation.

As part of the celebrations for June 5th, World Environment Day, in Holguin, actions of reforestation, educational talks, presentation of circles of interest, visits to natural reserves, among others, are carried out to emphasize the importance of caring for the environment.
