The Under 23 Cubs ended with two ties this Tuesday when they faced, as visitors, the Alazanes de Granma in seven-inning games at the Mártires de Barbados stadium in Bayamo in preparation for the VIII National Championship of this category that will begin on the 14th.
In the first game, which ended with a two-run tie, Yoneivis Velázquez’s team hit only two hits against seven for the Granma team and no errors were committed.
For Holguin, Ramiro Rodríguez pitched two innings in which he allowed four hits, one run and four strikeouts. While Yadir Bornot, in three innings, scored one run, gave up four hits and struck out two. Andriw Valido, in two episodes, allowed three singles, no hits and fanned four batters. Andris Agüero batted 2-1 and brought in one run.
Colleague Luis Lamoth Quiala adds that in the farewell game, the hug was a four-run affair with seven hits for the locals and three for the visitors, and one error for each team.
Left-handed starter Norge Luis Cobas scored no runs and was hit by a lone RBI in 3 and 1/3 innings in which he struck out five and gave away a pair of tickets. While Juan Luis Matos worked 1 and 2/3 innings in which he scored two runs, had four hits -two of them doubles-, struck out two and gave away an equal number of tickets.
Finally, Arley Espinosa in two chapters scored twice, had two hits, struck out four and gave away three bases. Andriw Valido with 3-1 and a run to the plate was the most outstanding offensive player.
This Wednesday, the Holguineros are waiting for the Leñadores de Las Tunas at the Calixto Garcia stadium, with whom they divided honors in their visit to the “Julio Antonio Mella” stadium.
Holguin will debut in this National Baseball Under 23 as visitor against Santiago de Cuba on June 14th and 15th and then will play three consecutive sub-series as home club at the Calixto Garcia stadium.
