Cuba’s Center for Research on Protein Plants and Bionatural Products (CIPB) will install a production capacity of more than 12 million units per year for the packaging of natural products. In support of the Natural and Traditional Medicine Program of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP).
This initiative is part of the project “Pilot, Horizontal Models of Knowledge Management and Technology Transfer in Agroecology” (MAS-DeSIRA). Promoted through a collaboration between the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The Ministry of Agriculture (MINAG) and the Ministry of Higher Education (MES) of Cuba, with financing from the European Union.
The new natural medicine production line will be dedicated to infusions made from medicinal plants such as moringa, Jamaica flower and ginger. Among others, with the aim of expanding the availability of these products in the country’s pharmacy network, according to FAO’s official website in Cuba.
Sirley González Laime, director of the CIPB’s medicinal plants project, stressed that the investment not only improves the facility’s production capacity, but also allows them to advance in their mission to offer the Cuban population access to natural and healthy infusions, with high nutritional values and therapeutic benefits.
Among the species used are moringa, mulberry, linden, chamomile and Jamaica flower, recognized for their medicinal properties.
Since its creation in 2017, the CIPB has worked on the development of sustainable value chains. The generation of scientific results and the promotion of innovation in key sectors of Cuban society.
