In June, the formation area of greatest interest for Cuba is the western Caribbean Sea. Almost always, those originating in that area move in trajectories close to the north. The western provinces and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud are the most exposed.
According to the Cuban Institute of Meteorology, the 2025 cyclonic season in the North Atlantic will be active, and the formation of 15 tropical cyclones is forecast, eight of which could reach hurricane category.
The danger of Cuba being affected by at least one hurricane is 50 percent of probability, higher than the climatological danger for the country, which is 35 percent.
Statistics show that in 2024 there were 18 depressions and an equal number of storms, 11 hurricanes and five major hurricanes, so the cycle was catalogued as hyperactive.
