New edition of the Music with Humor Festival on the doorstep

The Music with Humor Festival will return to Holguin from June 2nd to 5th, dedicated to celebrate the 114th anniversary of the birth of Faustino Oramas Osorio, El Guayabero, an icon of Cuban popular culture.

The event, organized by the Empresa de la Música y los Espectáculos that bears his name, is conceived as a platform that integrates education, art and dance in the communities through exhibitions, lectures and concerts.

Maira Escalona, member of the organizing committee of the event, highlighted at a press conference the integration of students from the El Alba Regional Arts Academy and the José María Ochoa Conservatory of Music into the program of activities, where they will present pieces, cartoons and musical numbers that pay tribute to the figure of the Guayabero.

This marks a distinctive aspect of previous editions, guaranteeing the continuity of the Festival and promoting an exchange of knowledge among generations of artists, she said.

As part of the event, which also celebrates the humorous facet of Faustino Oramas through caricature and illustration. There will be radio contests, with the participation of several generations of members of the host musical group Los Guayaberos.

The program of the Music with Humor Festival includes concerts by William Delgado, Delvis Lozano and Nadiel Mejías. As well as graphic exhibitions and a great closing show with the Care Care Duo, Lucrecia Marín and other artists.

Faustino Oramas Osorio (1911-2007), El Guayabero, was a renowned minstrel nicknamed the King of the Double Meaning who, throughout his career, was awarded important distinctions, among them. The Félix Varela Order for Cuban culture, the Raúl Gómez García Medal and the 2002 National Humor Award.
