The Provincial Scientific Conference on Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology was held in Holguin on May 30th. With the presentation of almost fifty research papers on topics as diverse as HIV/AIDS, environmental and social risks, zoonoses, non-transmissible diseases, arbovirosis and hospital epidemiology.
According to Dr. Osmani Ricardo Puig, head of the Provincial Group of Hygiene and Epidemiology. This institution annually carries out it’s scientific conference where the main health problems affecting the population of Holguin are dealt with.
He informed that 16 of the papers presented were awarded, on important topics such as the health and multisectoral paradigm with a One Health approach. Other topics such as pulmonary tuberculosis, environment and health and medical education were also presented.
According to Ricardo Puig, it was a successful day where issues of various specialties within the area of Hygiene and Epidemiology in the province were analyzed. “I think it has shown that we are engaged both in assistance and in science and technological innovation”.
Regarding his research on Periodization of the response to HIV/AIDS-deserving of a Relevant Award-. The also expert in the subject of Sexually Transmitted Infections referred that this work, with an experience of more than 25 years, shows the continuity in the response of all the uses of epidemiology and health management. The successes in each period and the gaps that remain to be overcome, within the responses to the HIV epidemic in the province.
This event coincided in physical space with the basic Forum corresponding to the current year. A space where the Nursing personnel, the academic committee and the organizing commission of the accreditation process of the specialty were also recognized.
