Díaz-Canel stressed the importance of talking about this issue because “the functioning of our economy depends on the operation of the National Electroenergy System. Which is weighed down, diminished, almost paralyzed in many activities due to the lack of the necessary service to attend to the economy and also to serve the citizens”.
Accompanied by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Vicente de la O Levy and the General Director of the Cuban Electric Union, Alfredo López Valdés. The President explained that the demand in May compared to March grew considerably, both in the afternoon and in the mornings.
In this regard, De la O Levy added that the difficult situation with liquefied gas. As well as non-compliance in the electricity consumption plans of several entities and high temperatures have a particular impact on the values recorded.
“The provinces have been adjusting to their already reduced consumption plan, but Havana has a significant non-compliance in the residential sector; and within the residential sector, the non-state management sector. Which are non-compliant and have an impact on these consumption increases,” the minister said.
During the podcast, the head of State denied a false news that circulated in social networks. After the broadcasting of the informative program “Mesa Redonda” on the electric power situation. Referring to the deactivation of two thermoelectric plants for 18 months, which would imply 72 consecutive hours of blackout and only four hours of electricity supply afterwards.
In this regard, the general director of the Electric Union reiterated that the country is working so that as of next July, blackouts will decrease and be under more control. As well as there will be a greater availability of fuel.
The Cuban president stressed that when the country is in a better situation, it will have to systematically maintain the thermoelectric plants and carry out the necessary capital repairs so as not to fall into this situation again.
“We are surrounded, persecuted and also accused by the same people who surround us and persecute every Cuban financial action. But we will not stop working to solve the problems that affect the people; and we will always be ready to answer any doubts that may arise because that is our duty”.
