The Cuban Telecommunications Company (ETECSA) is implementing as from today new commercial measures focused on the mobile telephone service. Particularly on the purchase of plans and mobile recharges.
Although it’s web page offers details on the matter, Lidia Esther Hidalgo Rodríguez, the entity’s commercial vice-president. Explained to the press that the current complex financial panorama makes it necessary to look for income that will allow them to sustain services, improve quality and technological infrastructure.
She argued that the U.S. blockade has had an impact on ETECSA’s critical financial situation by limiting the acquisition of technology and making materials, raw materials and technology more expensive. Which, being first world and state-of-the-art, are becoming increasingly difficult to purchase.
Fraud is another phenomenon that has a direct impact on the economic effects of the company and the country, said Hidalgo Rodríguez.
She clarified that from now on all the offers of the entity will be known as plans, while for lower prices there will be more and better options.
As of today, customers of the prepaid mobile service will be able to recharge their main balance up to a total amount of 360 CUP within 30 days.
The mobile balance available to customers is maintained, and both now and in the future it may be used to purchase plans without purchase limits, or to make as many balance transfers as they wish.
Likewise, some plans have been modified to offer more DATA for less up to 360 CUP. These will be available through USSD code (by dialing *133#).
All these offers will maintain the 300 MB of national navigation, explained ETECSA’s commercial vice-president.
She said that DATOS plans can now be used in any network (2G, 3G and 4G). A measure that facilitates the use of data at any connection point of the mobile network, and mainly benefits those users with accumulated data volumes for exclusive use in 4G.
It will also be possible to acquire plans with DATOS Extra at higher prices in CUP (from Transfermovil, online services and the commercial network), and in USD (from the MiTransfer wallet and international cards valid in our commercial offices), the specialist pointed out.
The VOZ, SMS and toDus (messaging exchange) plans maintain the same prices and can be paid for online services, Transfermovil and in the company’s own commercial network.
According to Hidalgo Rodríguez, ETECSA reiterates it’s commitment to work to overcome current challenges.
In this sense, the fundamental premises are to continue offering services in national currency for the enjoyment of the population. To maintain free access to digital learning environments and to continue ensuring connectivity to socially important sectors as a support for the digital transformation process in the country.
The specialist recalled that in December last year, before the National Assembly of People’s Power Manuel Marrero Cruz, Prime Minister, informed that during 2025 ETECSA would implement commercial measures focused on achieving the development and sustainability of services, and the search for income and financing.
These and other steps will allow telecommunications in Cuba to continue the development plan we have been carrying out for years. Which has exceeded more than 2 billion dollars in investment, Hidalgo Rodríguez pointed out.
