With the aim of reaching the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in optimal shape. The Cuban Federation announced an intense summer tour in Europe. Which includes key stops in elite circuits such as the Diamond League and traditional international meetings.
The information provided confirmed the presence of it’s main athletes in a series of competitions in Europe between May and August. As part of the preparatory route towards the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 2025. Considered the great commitment of the year.
Among the selected athletes are Leyanis Pérez, world indoor champion in the triple jump in Nanjing 2025. Lázaro Martínez, world indoor champion in Belgrade 2022; and Roxana Gómez, Olympic finalist in the 400 meters in Tokyo 2021.
Also included are emerging talents such as Reinaldo Espinosa, in the 100-meter dash. Dayli Cooper, in the 800 meters, semifinalist in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games; and Jocelyn Echazábal, in the 100-meter hurdles.
The tour will begin on May 31st and June 1st at the prestigious Hypomeeting in Götzis. Where Marys Patterson will compete in the heptathlon. Then, on June 6th, Perez and Povea will compete in the triple jump at the Diamond League in Rome.
Moscow will host from June 6-8th a large Cuban delegation with representatives in sprint and hurdles. While on June 12th, in Oslo, Perez and Martinez will return to the triple jump, with Povea on the waiting list.
Other relevant stops include the International Meeting of Troyes-Aube, on June 22nd, and the City of Malaga Meeting, on June 26th. With the participation of sprinters and jumpers such as Espinosa, Gomez, Yoandys Lescay, Greysi Robles, Maikel Massó and Alejandro Parada.
During July, Cuba will be present at the Montgeron Meeting. The José Luis Hernández Memorial in Pamplona. The Arcobaleno Meeting in Savona, the Bionda Meeting and the traditional event in Madrid.
In August they will close the tour at the Ludwichowskiego Memorial and the Guadalajara Meeting.
The World Athletics Championships Tokyo 2025 will be held from September 13rd to 21st at the National Stadium of Japan. Also with track, field, walking and marathon events, and represents the main competitive objective of the season for Cuban athletics.
