Agricultural insurance to benefit food production in Holguin

An agricultural insurance to benefit food production is being implemented in the province of Holguin. With the aim of protecting crops against intense weather phenomena, common in the months of June to November.

Rolando Iglesias Montero, director of the Basic Business Unit Holguin Insurance, highlighted to CNA that this facility covers Credit and Service Cooperatives and Basic Units of Cooperative Production, depending on the agreements made.

He pointed out that in municipalities such as Sagua de Tanamo, Banes, Baguanos and Mayari, coffee and grain productions are protected, with an approximate amount of 12 million pesos dedicated to this purpose.

The executive explained that farmers have access to bank loans to promote these crops and as a guarantee. These fruits are preserved against natural disasters and other types of losses.

He added that this option provides coverage to productive forms of diversifying their lines of business and increasing harvests. Both in the cold season and in the spring.
