Holguin-Havana train derails in Camagüey

A derailment of the extra train No.16 Holguin-Havana occurred this Tuesday night on the Central Line. Near the commercial access El Carnico, informed the Minister of Transportation, Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila.

Adalberto Giral Rodríguez, director of Ferrocarriles Centro-Oeste, confirmed to Adelante Digital that the locomotive went off the track 4.8 kilometers from the central station. Overturned the generator van and two cars, in addition to damaging 80 meters of rails.

Rodríguez Dávila detailed that the *trucks* and suspension systems of the affected cars were damaged. Nine of the 12 vehicles of the convoy were transferred to the Camagüey station without damage.

Specialized brigades are working on the rehabilitation of the track and the removal of the affected equipment. A process that could take between 24 and 48 hours.

Political and governmental authorities and rescue teams were on the scene. An investigating commission is analyzing the causes of the accident, according to the established protocol.

The passengers of the undamaged cars were taken by relief train. While the remaining 250 passengers traveled by bus to the Camagüey terminal.

At the station, those affected received medical attention, food and conditions for their organized return to Havana in buses, coordinated by the Ministry of Transportation.
