ALBA-TCP congratulates Venezuela on successful elections

The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) today applauded and congratulated the people and government of Venezuela for the resounding success of the legislative and regional elections held this Sunday.

The member states of the Latin American and Caribbean integration bloc stressed that the Venezuelan people “civically exercised their right to vote to elect the national legislature, legislative councils and regional governors, in a day marked by peace and citizen participation”.

They stressed that despite the continued international aggression against the Venezuelan people and the repeated and erratic calls by the extremist opposition to boycott the elections, more than six thousand candidates from 54 political organizations competed for parliamentary seats and regional governorships.

ALBA-TCP stated that this was a process that resulted “in a broad triumph of the parties of the Great Simon Bolivar Patriotic Pole (Gppsb), under the leadership of President Nicolas Maduro and the leadership of the Bolivarian Revolution”.

He pointed out that Venezuela has successfully carried out 32 electoral processes in 26 years of Revolution.

The Bolivarian Alliance recognized in these elections the “profound democratic and sovereign character” of the Bolivarian Republic and extended its congratulations to the candidates of all political currents that participated in such an important electoral contest.

The rector of the National Electoral Council, Carlos Quintero, informed that with 93.01 percent of the tallies counted and a turnout of 42.63 percent, the Gppsb alliance obtained 4,553,484 votes for 82.68 percent of the total for the positions of deputies of the national allocation list.

Its main opponent, the opposition Democratic Alliance obtained 344,422 votes, corresponding to 6.25 percent.

Likewise, of the 50 main legislators to be elected to the National Assembly, the Gppsb obtained 40, while the opposition obtained only six.

In the case of the governorships, the revolutionary and chavista forces swept 23 of the 24 regions (95.83 percent) and snatched from the right three of the four states in opposition hands: Barinas, Nueva Esparta and Zulia.
