The presentation of a replica of Cosme Proenza to Mariela Castro Espín, director of the National Center for Sex Education of Cuba (Cenesex in the Spanish acronym). It was the highlight of the gala concert against homophobia and transphobia, held at the Eddy Suñol Theater in the city of Holguin.
The meeting, held on Friday under the musical direction of Orestes Saavedra and artistic direction of soloist Nadiel Mejías. Offered a representation of the culture of transvestism, an insignia within the LGBTIQ+ movement. With interpretations of fragments of the zarzuela Cecilia Valdés. The musical La jaula de las locas, and the film La bella del Alhambra, connected to the monologue El amor es ley, performed by actor Lainer Santiesteban.
Also participating were the Holguin Symphonic Orchestra, the Rodrigo Prats Lyric Theater Ballet. The La Campana folkloric company, the Cuba Soy dance troupe, as well as soloists and transformists from the province.
The gala is part of the wide program of the Day of Fight against Homophobia and Transphobia. Which led by the campaign “Love is Law”, welcomes this year Holguin and Havana as venues. Developing numerous conferences, fairs and spaces aimed at establishing a community and educational dialogue.
This event is important because it shows the educational and communicational work carried out by Cenesex, focused on the cultural enrichment of the people on issues such as rights. An aspect that was supported by the updating of the Constitution of the Republic and the Cuban legislative system, said Castro Espín.

She highlighted as one of the specific objectives of these activities to make visible the struggles for the defense of these rights and reaffirmed the provocative character of the day in the educational sense. Where the search for professional help and alliances to strengthen the capacity of the family in its educational and affective responsibility is encouraged.
The evening was attended by Joel Queipo Ruiz, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and first secretary in the province. Manuel Hernández Aguilera, governor of Holguin, among other political and government authorities.
The Cuban Day against Homophobia, celebrated every May, proposes to reflect on family plurality. To make visible the different ways of discrimination and violence in order to sensitize the population to these problems.
