When dawn breaks and the sky begins to tinge with orange tones. The song of the birds becomes a natural symphony. The weight of the years does not prevent a farmer from rising with the determination that only the countryside forges.
He is a reflection of rural life, where sacrifice and satisfaction are intertwined in every day. Proud of his origins and with a smile that radiates love for his land, he confesses that he comes from the countryside and lives in it.
The smell of wet earth after a good downpour is a luxury that few know in the cities. For him, those little things give meaning to life. Sleeping with the blinds open during these blackout nights becomes almost a ritual. As well as a refuge of tranquility and freedom.
However, not everything is idyllic in rural life. The reality of the peasant is harsh and demanding. It is very difficult to get up at dawn to tend to the animals in the barnyard, he admits, while his eyes reflect the accumulated fatigue of years of work.
His strong, calloused hands bear witness to the daily effort, furrowing the earth under the scorching sun until his body can take no more. But despite the difficulties, there is a unique satisfaction in seeing the fruits of hard work on the family table.
Today, on the Day of the Peasant in Cuba, his voice resounds loudly. This day is not only a recognition to those who work the land, but a tribute to the traditions that unite us. May it serve to enhance our roots, our parents and grandparents and above all, our Cuban land.
The countryside has changed. It is no longer just a place for farmers. Today it is home to doctors, engineers, a deputy to the National Assembly. Technology has arrived to transform agriculture, but there are also forgotten corners that still preserve ancestral traditions, almost alien to the accelerated development of the modern world.
Thus, while the sun rises on the horizon and the sounds of the countryside awaken, this Holguinero feels part of a legacy that goes beyond sweat and soil. It is a commitment to his history, to his family and to the future he wishes to build for the next generations. Because in every harvest there is a story, and in every farmer, an anonymous hero who deserves to be celebrated.
Peasant life is not only a way of subsistence, it is a way of existence that teaches us the value of hard work, perseverance and love for our roots. On this Cuban Peasant’s Day, let us remember that for the city to exist, the countryside must exist; and that every fruit on our table carries with it the effort and dedication of those who love the land.
