Holguineros defeat in boxing quarterfinals in Girón

The three Holguineros in action this Thursday in the second and last date of the quarterfinals of the LXII Playa Girón National Boxing Championship at the Rafael Fortún Hall in the city of Camagüey were defeated.

In the 51 kilograms, Raudel Moya (51 kg) came out crestfallen, by RSC-1, against the member of the national pre-selection Alejandro Claro, from Sancti Spiritus.

By unanimous decision of the judges, 3-0, Modesto Graham (60) and Daniel De La Torre (92) lost to Jorge Gonzalez, from Mayabeque, and Harold Ramirez, from Camaguey, respectively.

This Friday, the 20 semifinal bouts will take place, where Holguin will have in the first fight Kevin Zayas (48 kg) versus Danny Suárez, from Cienfuegos, and in the fifteenth fight Jorge Soto (80 kg) against Jairon Silveira, from Granma. Zayas will try to improve his bronze medal from the last edition and Soto will try to be again in the final.

The competition by provinces has Sancti Spíritus and Santiago de Cuba as protagonists, with 10 points, together with Guantanamo (9) and Camagüey (8).

The Playa Girón National Boxing Championship is an annual amateur boxing event in Cuba, organized by the Cuban Boxing Federation, which is affiliated with the International Boxing Association (IBA).

In this tournament, each Cuban province is represented by a group of boxers, and the winner of each weight category is proclaimed national champion in that category. In addition, a title is awarded to the provincial team whose boxers obtain the best overall performance.

It has a long tradition dating back to its first edition in May 1962. Currently, the championship is held annually in December.
