Holguin secures two bronzes in Playa Giron Boxing 2025

Victories for Kevin Zayas (48 kg) and Jorge Soto (80) and defeats for Nestor Rodriguez (57), Jairo Munive (71) and Carlos Aguilera (80) was the result of the Holguin’s fighters on Wednesday in the first quarterfinal round of the LXII National Boxing Championship 2025 hosted by Camagüey.

In the first bout of the evening, Zayas defeated Carlos Fernandez, from Ciego de Avila, by RSC, while in the fourteenth and penultimate bout, Soto defeated local Kárel Simón 3-0. Both winners secured the bronze medal.

In one of the best fights of the lineup, between members of the national pre-selection, Munive lost 3-0 to Jorge Cuellar, from Sancti Spíritus, and Rodríguez lost 3-0 to Osvaldo Díaz, also from Sancti Spíritus.

In another disputed fight between members of the national pre-selection Carlos Aguilera lost 2-1 to Leonys Thomas, from Guantanamo.

The Holguin squad, which presented eleven fighters in the Camagüey fight of the Playa Girón 2025 National Boxing Tournament, now has a balance of five wins and five losses, two bronze medals and six men in action.

After the third date of the pugilistic event, the province of Santiago de Cuba leads the points table with 8, followed by Sancti Spíritus (7), Guantánamo (6), and Holguín, Camagüey and Villa Clara, all with 5.
