Díaz-Canel Returns to Havana After Commemoration in Russia

President Miguel Díaz-Canel arrived in Havana from Russia after participating in the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The head of state was received at José Martí International Airport by the Secretary of Organization of the Communist Party of Cuba, Roberto Morales, Vice President Salvador Valdés, and the Secretary of the Council of Ministers, Amado Ricardo Guerra, the Presidency of the Republic reported on the social media platform X.

Since May 4th, the Cuban president made an official visit to the Eurasian giant. Where he demonstrated the positive state of relations at all levels with the Russian Federation, including political, economic, and commercial relations.

The day before, he met with members of the Caribbean nation’s state mission in Moscow, to whom he emphasized the importance of participating in the events commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory over fascism. At a time when attempts are being made to distort history.

The celebrations also coincided with the 65th anniversary of the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and the former Soviet Union, which took place on May 8th, 1960.

Díaz-Canel also visited the Moskvich automobile factory, where the mayor of the Russian capital, Sergei Sobyanin, presented him with a check for a donation of 10 automobiles for social services in Havana.

During his official visit, the Cuban president was received by his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, with whom he agreed that ties between Havana and Moscow have endured despite the challenges they have faced over time.

Both leaders and representatives of the two countries held a round of negotiations where they reviewed the development of current bilateral agreements and medium- and long-term plans for political, economic, and commercial cooperation.
