Díaz-Canel arrives in Moscow

President Miguel Díaz-Canel, at the head of the Cuban delegation that will participate in the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of the Victory over Fascism, arrived in Moscow on Tuesday.

The president arrived in the capital of the Eurasian nation from St. Petersburg. The city where he began his official visit to the Russian Federation. Prensa Latina reported from the Vnukovo airport.

At the slab of the air terminal, the head of state was received by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Serguei Riabkov and by the second head of the Cuban mission in Moscow, Ambassador Enrique Orta.

During his stay in the also called capital of the North of Russia, Diaz Canel paid homage to the defenders of the city of Leningrad (today St. Petersburg) at the monument to the Motherland in the Pikarievski cemetery.

Later the head of the Caribbean state was received by St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov at the Smolny Palace, where they held official talks.

Upon his arrival at the Smolny, Diaz-Canel laid flowers before the statue of Vladimir Lenin (1870-1924), founder of the first socialist state and leader of the working class, and then visited the office and the room once used by the leader of the October Revolution in this place.

The president inaugurated the exhibition Oh, Havana Transit, with works of art about Cuba in homage to emblematic places and the society of the Caribbean nation.

After the meeting with Beglov, Diaz-Canel visited scientific and technological centers of international relevance and importance for Russian-Cuban bilateral cooperation. Among them was the Vertex pharmaceutical company, located in the Novoorlovskaya site of the city’s Special Economic Zone.

During the tour of the facility, he familiarized himself with the company’s line of finished products. Which range from life-saving drugs to cosmetics.

Together with the governor of St. Petersburg, he also visited the electromagnetic compatibility and climate testing laboratories, comprehensive testing centers and innovative energy of the PJSC Rosseti Intelligent Laboratory of Digital Networks.

The Cuban president is one of almost 20 heads of state who confirmed their attendance to the commemorations for the 80th Anniversary of the Victory over Fascism and the End of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945).
