Díaz-Canel Urges People to Show Unity This May 1st

Just days before May First, Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC in the Spanish acronym) and President of the Republic. Today urged people to march, showing the strength of unity on this historic day for workers.

In his message, published in X, the head of state emphasiz ed that a special inspiration this year will be the 25th anniversary of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro’s speech. In which he bequeathed the concept of Revolution.He added that in that speech, Fidel called for action with a “sense of the historic moment” and called for marching this May Day. As the concept of Revolution also indicates, “for our independence and our dreams of justice.”

The Cuban Workers’ Federation and its national unions called this year for a day of mobilization to celebrate International Workers’ Day. Under the slogan “For Cuba, Together We Create.”

The May Day celebration will be a new and resounding demonstration that Cubans remain steadfast here, standing and fighting! They stated in the call. We trust in the people’s ability to guarantee the broadest participation in the parades in squares, towns, and in all the provinces and municipalities throughout the archipelago, Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, general secretary of the CTC, recently stated.

He also expressed that “our ongoing call, and especially on May 1st, is to optimize the powers granted to the business system. To link productive chains with new forms of non-state management. And to continue promoting decent employment in accordance with the International Labor Organization conventions to which we are signatories. Demonstrating that we continue to promote the policies of equity and social justice that are the work of the Revolution.”
