FICGibara adds experimental cinema to the Lucía Awards

The integration of animation and experimental cinema into the competition for the Lucía Awards. It is one of the novelties of the 19th edition of the Gibara International Poor Film Festival (FICGibara). Which will be held from April 15 to 19 in that coastal city in the province of Holguin.

The new edition of FICGibara has a wide representation from Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Turkey. With more than 500 works registered and, in the competition for the Lucía Awards. 90 were selected, divided into the categories of fiction feature films and short films. Documentary feature and short films, animation and experimental film.

The official juries, announced by the organizers. Are made up of relevant national and foreign figures, among which stand out. To award the fiction award, the actress Jacqueline Arenal, as president, in addition to the director Patricia Ramos, the producer Tarik El Idrissi, from Morocc. The makeup artist Saraï Fiszel, from France and the Uruguayan filmmaker Yamandú Testa.

The documentary jury is made up of filmmaker Alejandra Guzzo, from Uruguay. Pedro Ortega, programmer of the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema in Havana; and the Italian Marco Neri, professor at the Gian Maria Volonté School of Cinematographic Art.

Meanwhile, in animation the verdict will be issued by producer Aramís Acosta as president. Alicia Tellería, professor at the International Film and Television School, and screenwriter and journalist Laura Pérez Gómez.

The film-in-progress competition will be evaluated by a group headed by director Didier Couëdic. Together with producer Antonio Urrata and the director and Osmany Sánchez Arañó. The International Federation of Film Clubs will also be present at FICGibara with a delegation made up of its vice president Lázaro Alderete. The president of the Catalan Federation of Film Clubs Emma Fernández López and the filmmaker Guillermo Ochoa.

They will also represent the Cuban Association of the Film Press. A national affiliate of the International Federation of the Film Press (FIPRESCI).

A film critics Lino Verdecia, Mayra Álvarez and Ángel Pérez. The Lucía Awards, inspired by the emblematic film by Humberto Solás, are the highest laurels in each category of the event and their delivery also recognizes the work of personalities of great relevance linked to the Cuban seventh art.
