Diaz-Canel exchanged with Cuban collaborators in Honduras

Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic. Held an emotional meeting in Honduras with Cuban health and education collaborators. And with members of the Honduran movement of solidarity with Cuba.

The president, who arrived in Tegucigalpa on Tuesday to participate in the IX Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States. Underscored his country’s commitment to regional integration and support for the government of President Xiomara Castro, highlighted in X the Cuban Presidency.

The Cuban President recalled that at the Second Summit of the bloc. Held in Havana in 2014, the proclamation of the region as a zone of peace was approved.
During the dialogue, the head of state ratified the commitment that the Cuban Revolution will emerge victorious from the current challenges and assured that Honduras and its people will be able to continue counting on the Antillean nation.

He denounced that the United States government is carrying out a smear campaign against Cuban doctors. Also highlighted the dignified response of Caribbean countries to the pressures to cease these collaboration programs. During the meeting, he praised the work of Cuban collaborators in the Central American country.

A work that, he said, has overcome the passage of time and will soon reach a historic milestone. The declaration of Honduras as a territory free of illiteracy. In the exchange, significant figures were revealed. 128 Cuban health professionals work in more than 20 Honduran regions, covering all medical specialties.

The educational brigade is made up of 135 collaborators, 86 percent women, from all the provinces of Cuba. Of these, 113 have master’s degrees or doctorates, and their work has allowed more than 395 thousand Hondurans to learn to read and write.

Honduras will always be able to count on Cuba, the President assured. While representatives of the local solidarity movement expressed their gratitude. “The grateful of this country are with Cuba for all time.”

The event also paid tribute to Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, historical leader of the Cuban Revolution.
