And the author risks touching on a rare theme in young Cuban narrative.” The novel “La Periferia del Mundo”, by Armando Ochoa. Who was awarded the Fronesis Scholarship in 2022, was presented by writer and editor Roberto Ráez.

The title belongs to the novelties of Ediciones La Luz. Imprint of the Hermanos Saiz Association, for the XXXIII edition of the International Book Fair in Holguin. Inserted in its club “Abrir las constelaciones”, a flagship space of the publishing house for the defense and promotion of young Cuban writers.

Structured in the manner of adventure novels, “The Periphery.” Deals with the story of three Cuban collaborators of the UN. Located in a village in Nairobi, where they seek to eliminate archaic ritual practices. Whose trajectory coincides with a leader trained at the Latin American School of Medicine.

In this way, the novel creates an innovative scenario. Rarely represented in its contemporaries. Wrapping in the same pages two cultures as an abysmal encounter. Whose narrative seeks to change African traditions from a Cuban way of being. Which is exposed in the gaze of a photographer. Who fulfills an internationalist mission and must document the process.

Also as the second protagonist the vision of a collaborator committed to the struggle for a dignified life for the women of the region.

Futhermore other titles were presented such as “Descent of Alcestes”, by Roberto Méndez. “Puertas sagradas”, by W. H. Auden, with translation by Manuel Verdecia. “This train is called desire”, by Iran Capote and “Demarcations”, by Erik Gálvez.
