The most important process that the University of Medical Sciences of Holguin (UCMHo in the Spanish acronym) is going through from March 23 to 27 is institutional reaccreditation. Which contributes to the improvement of quality in training in undergraduate careers. Specialties, master’s degrees and the doctoral training program.
This center presents itself to the rigorous process with an arduous. And maintained work of the university community during the last five years. Hence, it aspires to the status of Excellence, having the status of Certified since 2015.
Regarding the program of activities planned to meet the quality standards to be evaluated by the 21 experts of the Institutional Accreditation Board (JAN). The rector of the house of higher studies, Galina Galcerán Chacón. Points out that “on the 23rd we held a first reception. Where we made the presentation to the evaluation team.
Also together with the highest political authorities, government and health of the province. On the day of this 24th, the community, students, workers and representatives of nearby educational centers received the evaluation team. That will travel through the institutions and evaluate the evidence gathered on our work.”
On the 25th, they will visit the Medical Sciences Branch to evaluate the students. And learn about their preparation from the teaching point of view. In the afternoon of that same day, a gala of amateur artists is planned. Prepared by the young people of the institution. On Wednesday 26 they will visit hospitals and other teaching venues. While the conclusions are scheduled for Thursday 27 in the afternoon.
Regarding the conditions in which they face reaccreditation. The Doctor of Sciences said “we have gone through one of the goals we set ourselves. Of evaluating medical specialties that have demonstrated the quality of training. To date, 26 specialties have been evaluated, of which two are Certified. Two are awaiting the final results and the rest are evaluated for Excellence.
In the initial evaluation of 2015 we had only one master’s degree. Accredited with the status of Certified and today we offer nine master’s degrees and a training program doctoral training. Which include the main health problems faced by the health system. We arrive at this moment with an important amount of evidence. So in how much our house of higher studies has gone through in that quality of university processes.”
Moreover the JAN evaluators will be in all training scenarios. Provincial and municipal hospitals and those of Primary Health Care. To fulfill this purpose, each expert will intend to visit in search of evidence. On how university quality in the health sciences takes place in the territory.
This reaccreditation, covered by resolution 150 of the Ministry of Higher Education (MES). Contemplates six variables that cover the institutional context. And its relevance, human resources, the training of undergraduate professionals, research and postgraduate studies, infrastructure and economic and social impact. As part of it, evidence must be presented on the impact of the training processes of health professionals in Holguin, Cuba and towards the world.
A particular issue of this reaccreditation lies in the interest it reverts to the health system of the province. As it is considered the University epicenter of it. Therefore, this house of higher studies is the fundamental space where future professionals who give vitality to health institutions are trained.
