Cuba stands out in Lisbon Tourism Stock Exchange

Cuba concluded its successful participation in the Lisbon Tourism Exchange in Lisbon, as the guest international destination, and consolidated its position in the Portuguese market and strengthened ties with important players in the sector.

Interviewed by Prensa Latina, the Cuban Minister of Tourism for Spain and Portugal, Niurka Perez, described the development of this event as historic, which had, she added, a continuous interest of the public and professionals of the leisure industry in the offer of the Caribbean country.

Also this market has always received us with great affection, there are lovers of Cuba here, and our stand has not stopped, she explained.

During the meeting, retail agencies that sell tourist packages from Portugal to the largest of the Antilles registered intense activity, Pérez added, and stressed that the European nation continues to bet on the archipelago.

One of the main objectives of the Cuban delegation at the event based at the Lisbon International Fair, in the Parque de las Naciones, was to promote a more direct connection between the two countries, without depending exclusively on stopovers in Madrid.

We, of course, continue to try and look for variants to connect this market with Cuba, not only in the summer but in the rest of the year, she said.

According to Pérez, his country not only focused on the promotion of beaches and tourist destinations, but also promoted the dissemination of its own culture and heritage.

At the height of what we have always expected from this market, people came to share with us the mojito, the Cuba Libre (two cocktails), the dance, the Cuban songs, and that has been great.

Moreover she recalled that last year the number of Portuguese tourists who traveled to the island was the highest in history and left behind the figure of 2019 prior to the scourge of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This event, which led to the exchange of ideas and knowledge, the signing of agreements and the promotion of destinations, also served to invite the International Tourism Fair of Cuba, from April 30 to May 3 in Havana.

For this objective, Pérez stressed, we took advantage of the Cuban Night, which was attended by representatives of agencies, airlines and hotel chains, and personalities of the smoke-free industry from Portugal and Brazil.
