Prize for the Work of Life awarded to Holguin journalist

The presentation of the Abraham Portuondo Larrasagui Lifetime Achievement Award to journalist Magalys Pupo Leyva closed the Day of the Cuban Press on March 15 in Holguin.

The award recognizes Pupo Leyva for a career that accompanied and gave prestige to Holguin journalism for decades as a correspondent for the Cuban Television Information System.

The Félix Elmusa distinction was also awarded. The highest decoration granted by the Union of Journalists of Cuba to outstanding professionals, both national and foreign. Geovannys Jiménez, sub-delegate of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment in Holguin, was honored by the circle of specialized journalists who address scientific issues, for their work in the defense and promotion of studies and innovations in the country.

The meeting was opportune to celebrate the Day of the Cuban Press and the 133rd anniversary of the creation of the newspaper Patria, the 130th anniversary of the fall in combat of José Martí, the 110th anniversary of the birth of Juan Manuel Márquez and the 40th anniversary of the Editor of the UPEC (Union of Journalists of Cuba) Pablo de la Torriente Brau. In addition to celebrating the 28th anniversary of the creation of the Radio Holguin La Nueva Station.

The Day for the Cuban Press, from March 5 to 15, honored colleagues who have contributed to the formation of the career and recalled the tireless work of the press in defense of the Cuban Revolution.

In Holguin, the closing ceremony was attended by Joel Queipo Ruíz, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and first secretary of that political organization in the province, among other political authorities.
