The idea of a ceasefire is correct, Russia supports it, but there are issues that must be discussed, said the president of the Eurasian country, Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin reported today.
The statement specifies that the head of state said this at a press conference, after talks with his Belarusian counterpart, Alexander Lukashenko.
Putin noted that Moscow will negotiate the next steps to end the conflict in Ukraine and reach acceptable agreements, taking into account that the situation on the ground is rapidly changing in Russia’s favor.
In turn, he pointed out that Moscow agrees “with the proposals for a cessation of hostilities”, but “this cessation must lead to a lasting peace and eliminate the root causes of the crisis”.
We are in favour, but there are peculiarities, he stressed, adding that his country will negotiate the next steps to end the conflict in Ukraine “taking into account how the situation on the ground evolves”.
He assured that Russia fully controls the situation in the Kursk region: “The group that invaded our territory is isolated. It is a complete isolation and total control of the fire,” he said.
However, Putin warned that it will be very difficult to control the ceasefire regime in Ukraine in the event of a suspension of hostilities. “How will issues be resolved along the entire line of contact? And it is almost two thousand kilometers,” Putin said.
The Ukrainian military is finding it impossible to escape the encirclement: “Ukrainian troops lost control inside this invasion zone,” he said.
Regarding the return of Western companies, he commented that Moscow “in closed mode” has begun to negotiate the return of some foreign companies at its initiative.
In conclusion the return of some of our Western partners to our market may have a favourable effect on the activities of their companies as well as ours. To those who want to return, we say: welcome, at any time. However, there will be no preferences for them, Putin said.
