Holguin begins Russian culture day

With an extensive program of activities that includes concerts and talks, the day of Russian culture began this Thursday in the city of Holguin, which will last until March 16.

Alfredo Más, organizer of the event, informed the Cuban News Agency that among the main activities is the premiere of the opera “Eugenio Onegin”, by Tchaikovsky, which will take place on the 15th and 16th in the Raúl Camayd hall of the Eddy Suñol Theater, under the general direction of Liudmila Pérez.

Helson Hernández, artistic director of the show, commented that the opera, premiered in 1879 and based on the novel in verse by the writer Aleksandr Pushkin, will be staged by the Rodrigo Prats Lyric Theater along with soloists from the Havana lyric movement as guest figures, such as the mezzo-soprano Giselle Polanco, in the character of Olga, and the tenor Jorge Luis Guzmán, playing Lenski.

During the day, the presentation of the ballet “The Nutcracker” will take place, by students of the Raúl Gómez García Elementary School of Art; and the concert of singers from the Rodrigo Prats Lyric Theater together with students from the Faculty of Singing, from the Holguin branch of the University of the Arts, with a select repertoire of great Russian composers.

The event will also host a discussion on Russian culture by Natalia Prónina, a member of the Community of Russian Speakers in Holguin, and will be the ideal occasion to pay tribute to Aleksandr Pushkin and Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, illustrious representatives of Romanticism.

Sponsored by the Provincial Council of the Performing Arts of Holguin, the CMBF Radio Musical Nacional and the Russian House of Havana, the day aims to bring the idiosyncrasy of the Slavic country closer to the Holguin public through the confluence of various artistic manifestations.
