Action in Cuba to reorganize private transport services

Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero said that actions are underway to reorganize transport services from non-state forms of management, according to local media today.

The Cuban authorities hope that the private sector “will continue to support passenger transportation, but without imposing abusive prices,” according to the review of Marrero’s intervention in the balance of the management, during 2024, of the Ministry of Transport.

That was one of the demands of the head of government, who asked the leaders of the branch to “continue looking for solutions for the good of the population and the economy,” the newspapers Granma and Juventud Rebelde highlight in their print editions.

“It is inadmissible that a State vehicle does not pick up people at the stops, and therefore measures must be demanded and adopted against those who fail to comply with this provision,” he stressed.

He also stressed that despite shortages of fuel, foreign currency and material resources, “a great effort has been made to guarantee the minimum services of passenger and cargo transportation, and that the country and the economy do not stop.”

On the other hand, “he urged to improve the work of the port-transport-internal economy operation,” and “pay more attention to the improvement of working conditions in port facilities and to the prevention and confrontation of theft and diversion of goods.”

Also, they add, he directed to expand and diversify higher quality services “in the railway, maritime-port, civil aviation and road branches,” and “work to recover ambulances and hearses paralyzed or without technical disposition.”

During the meeting, it was learned that among the objectives of the management in 2025 are “to improve logistics efficiency in cargo transportation, comply with passenger transportation plans, stop the deterioration of infrastructures and means and promote their gradual recovery, sustainability and development.”

The meeting was also attended by President Miguel Díaz-Canel, the Minister of Transport, Eduardo Rodríguez, and other government and party leaders of the country.
