The Supreme People’s Court said that it has concluded the process of early release of 553 sanctioned prisoners, announced last January by the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to local media reports on Tuesday.
All those sanctioned who benefited from the early release announced on January 14 are already free, said the vice president, Marisela Sosa, in statements to the National Television News.
According to several notifications, including that of Radio Habana Cuba, Sosa specified that “in January 378 applications were submitted to the Court and in February 175.”
The beneficiaries, she said, were informed of “the resolutions in which the date on which they had to appear before the enforcement judge of their place of residence was established, for the purposes of follow-up and control later.”
Besides she also explained that the judge has the obligation in that appearance to let them know what are the rights, prohibitions and restrictions imposed on him by the fulfillment of the sanction and also of the accessory sanctions.
Early release, she stressed, is a benefit that the sanctioned person receives before serving their sentence and “under that logic, the obligations that they will have to comply with once they are released are defined.”
According to the official, the benefit could be revoked in the event of non-compliance with the obligations of those released. Who would return to the prison to complete the time pending the sanction.
In conclusión if they do not return to work or study, without justifying reason, the benefit may be revoked. As well as those who do not appear before the enforcement judge on the date indicated.
