The first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and president of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, greeted the diplomatic corps of the Arab and Islamic countries accredited in the country in the protocol room of Laguito, in Havana.
The meeting, which the head of state attended for the second consecutive year, took place in the context of the Ramadan Iftar (breaking of the Islamic fast), a ceremony whose organizer was the dean of the Arab diplomatic corps accredited in Havana, the ambassador of the Republic of Yemen, Mohamed Saleh Nasher.
During the greeting, which was also attended by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, both members of the Political Bureau, the dean of the group of Arab ambassadors expressed to the Cuban leadership that they support the island and are with it in the fight against the U.S. blockade, demand that this siege be lifted and that Cuba be excluded from the fraudulent list of supposedly sponsoring countries of terrorism.
On behalf of the group of Arab ambassadors, Mohamed Saleh Nasher presented Díaz-Canel as a reminder and as a gesture of the high regard that Arab and Islamic nations have for Cuba. The present, said the ambassador, “sums up the defense of the Arab world against colonialism, as well as the entire Arab cultural heritage.
In an aside with the press team of the Presidency of the Republic, the dean stated that “the holy month of Ramadan is a month of kindness and blessings, and constitutes an opportunity to promote the values of tolerance, solidarity and cooperation. We, as Arab countries, ensure that these values are highlighted through these occasions that bring us together with our brothers and friends in Cuba.”
He also highlighted the role that Cuba plays in supporting international peace and justice, as well as its prominent role in the battle for the cause of the Palestinian people.
During the day, those present shared a moment of legendary hospitality and reflection on the common values of justice, tolerance, peace and dignity. Ramadan is a tradition that symbolizes unity, fraternity, peace and coexistence among peoples.
