On International Women’s Day, beyond the clichés of greetings and bouquets of flowers, an undeniable truth rises: the intrinsic value of women as an engine of change and a fundamental pillar of society. A value that, despite centuries of oppression, silencing and denial, persists, shines and continues to transform the world.
This day is a time to recognize achievements, yes, but also to make visible the persistent inequalities and injustices that women still face in all walks of life.
From the domestic sphere to the world of work, from science to the arts. Women has demonstrated a capacity for resilience, innovation, and leadership that has driven human progress.
They are mothers, daughters, sisters, friends, colleagues, community leaders, businesswomen, scientists, artists, politicians, activists. Each one, in its own way, contributes to building a better future.
Also despite their immense value, women in many parts of the world continue to face systemic barriers that limit their potential and prevent them from achieving real equality. Pay gaps, workplace harassment, gender-based violence, lack of representation in leadership positions are just some of the ways in which discrimination manifests itself in their daily lives.
Journalism has a responsibility to give voice to these realities. To illuminate the stories of women struggling with adversity, and to hold accountable those who perpetuate inequality.
But the responsibility does not lie solely with the media. Each individual has the power to make a difference. It is possible to challenge gender stereotypes in everyday life. Support women in our community, and demand that policies be adopted that promote equal opportunities.
The value of women is non-negotiable. It is a fundamental human right. On this 8th March, let us commit ourselves to building a world where all women can live free, safe and fulfilled, without fear of discrimination or violence. A world where their potential is recognized, celebrated, and supported. Because when women thrive, we all thrive. The future depends on it.
