The national leadership of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR in the Spanish acronym), led by its National Coordinator and Hero of the Republic, Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, is visiting the province of Holguin. During their stay, meetings were held with the inhabitants of the territory and tours of various assistance and educational institutions.
One of the highlights of the visit was the Lenin Hospital in Holguin, where Hernández delivered a donation of medical supplies on behalf of the organization. Later, the tour continued to the community of Lindero, located in the El Purial Popular Council, on the road that leads to Playa Guardalavaca.
This town was recently the venue for the festivities for the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in the municipality of Holguin.
In Lindero, the Hero of the Republic, interacted with the residents, representatives of different community sectors and the team of Social workers of the area.
During the exchange, he shared his experiences about the years he spent in prison in the U.S. and thanked the Holguin community for their fundamental role in the struggle for the release of the Cuban Five Heroes, highlighting the importance of the Solidarity Colloquiums.
“Many international friends who began to write to us from prison learned about our case after participating in a Colloquium here. They always felt proud and, although the years have passed, they still remember their participation in those editions. Holguin became an example of solidarity and organization in our struggle, and those events gave us a lot of encouragement,” said Hernández.
The day also included a visit to the “Vitalio Herrera Pérez” elementary school, where the National Coordinator held a warm meeting with students and teachers of the educational center.
In the evening, the exchange continued in the “Pedro Díaz Coello” neighborhood, where an anti-imperialist debate was held that highlighted the constant link with the community.
Futhermore, the visit of the national leadership of the CDRs also covered other municipalities in the province, including Urbano Noris. In this territory, Julia Durrutí Molina, national deputy coordinator of the organization, evaluated the work carried out in the town of San Germán, of last September 28 in the province.
During this meeting, Durrutí Molina emphasized the need to promote food production in yards and plots, as well as the importance of addressing non-compliance related to blood donations, a vital resource for medical care.
“We call for better organization of this process, reviewing who the donors are and how they will be cared for both by Public Health and by the CDRs,” he concluded.
