With a call to exchange ideas and professional knowledge to walk safely in the legal challenges of the present and the future, the tenth edition of the International Congress of Advocacy (Advocacy 2025) began today at the Havana Convention Center.
The opening session of the event, which brings together more than 650 delegates from Cuba and other latitudes, was attended by Julio César García Rodríguez, head of the Office of Attention to the Union of Young Communists, Mass Organizations, State Organs and Legal Sector of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba; Homero Acosta Álvarez, secretary of the National Assembly of People’s Power, and a representation of the highest authorities of the branch.
Lilia María Hernández Doejó, president of the National Organization of Collective Law Firms (ONBC in the Spanish acronym), pointed out the realization on Tuesday of pre-congress courses and other activities that made it possible to prepare the participants around the management and solution of legal disputes, which is the main theme of the meeting.
Regarding the conception of the Congress, she highlighted the ability to promote the meeting between the new and changing needs of the practice of Law, based on the collective intelligence of the legal community in the territories until reaching the appointment with the aim of providing a space for training and learning to cement good professional experiences, so necessary in the current scenario.
Therefore, she pointed out that these actions and the knowledge generated will contribute to the fundamental purpose and raison d’être of the ONBC to guarantee the right of citizens to technical defensa. The representation and legal advice to both the public and new economic actors, in accordance with the principles endorsed in the Constitution of the Republic.
Hernández Doejó referred, among other issues to be discussed, to the use of information and communication technologies for a more efficient administration of processes and for decision-making, in the same way that it should be insisted on raising the legal culture of the population and legal operators. Also for the benefit of the high quality that should distinguish legal services at a time of great transformations and evolution of society.
The technical program of Advocacy 2025, which will run until March 7, includes high-level exchanges with specialists and personalities in the field, keynote lectures and working commissions dedicated to the different thematic axes such as litigation in civil, family, commercial and administrative conflicts, and ethics, among others.
