U.S. project donates Ceftriazone to pediatric hospital Cuba’s

Unconditional friend, Gloria la Riva, coordinator of the U.S. HATUEY project – whose acronym stands for Health Advocates in Truth, Unity and Empathy – delivered, at the provincial headquarters of the Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), 250 ampoules of the antibacterial drug, Ceftriazone, to the Holguin pediatric hospital Octavio de la Concepción y de la Pedraja.

The injectable, broad-spectrum drug, which does not exist in the country, will contribute to the treatment of children, between four and six years of age, with oncological conditions, thus contributing to their recovery process, replacing other less effective ones, explained Dr. Ana Patricia Rivas Naranjo, deputy clinical director of the assistance center.

The young specialist explained that Ceftriazone serves for the treatment of other severe diseases in different organs and systems, due to its effectiveness in fighting germs and bacteria, being very important to mean that each box, with 25 bulbs, can save the lives of three children.

She reported that the room of such specialized services, in addition to the emotional support provided to patients, receives donations from Cuban institutions, as well as from organizations from other countries, whose humanitarian gestures are greatly appreciated.

La Riva, active in the political life of her country always together with those who know about peace, freedom, love and solidarity when explaining what refers to these and many other donations of medicines, supplies and equipment, to the Cuban health system, said she felt very grateful to this people, for their example and because they do not surrender in the face of the adversities imposed by their historical enemy.

Since 1985, when she began to link up with solidarity organizations in her country, Gloria La Riva has unconditionally supported Cubas just causes, in the face of the U.S. blockade and the inclusion of the archipelago in the list of countries allegedly sponsoring terrorism, distinguishing herself in the international battle waged for the release of the Five Cuban antiterrorist heroes who were paying unjust penalties in U.S. prisons.

Now, as coordinator of the HATUEY project, Gloria, among other activities in her country, is also dedicated to raising funds and buying materials to contribute to the repair and construction of 42 homes, which were affected by Hurricane Oscar, in the rural community of Macambo, in the also eastern province of Guantánamo.
Dr. Ana Patricia and the delegate of Icap Lupe Isabel Fernández Ramírez expressed thanks for so much solidarity because memory rewards the grateful.
